Frequently Asked Questions

An empty leg flight is an unbooked flight that repositions a private jet to the airport from which a chartered flight starts.

It is called empty because it does not contain any paying passengers.

For example: Mr Smith books a private jet from Palma de Mallorca to London. The aircraft Mr Smith booked has to reposition from Paris to Palma de Mallorca to begin the chartered flight: this repositioning flight is an "empty leg", which is available at a significantly discounted price compared to a normal charter.

The price of empty leg flights is typically 50-80% less than a normal charter flight.

Although the aircraft may be empty when repositioning, the empty-leg customer still needs to cover additional costs such as catering, passengers taxes, and additional fuel requirements.

To request a price for a specific empty leg, simply fill out the form by clicking on the empty leg. Our team will contact you with a price.

Empty leg flights are a fantastic way of experiencing private jet travel on a tight budget. Above you can find a full list of available private jet aircraft, sorted by departure date.

Please note: empty leg flights are only ever one-way. The return journey (or outbound journey) will need to be made by means of transport - for example, on a regular commercial flight.

Empty legs are not typically sold on a per-seat basis: the price indicated is for the entire aircraft.

We recommend making the most out of the experience by inviting friends and family to join you: that way, the price per person can be reduced significantly.

If the empty leg flight is booked with enough notice, then catering can be arranged. The necessary lead-time for arranging catering is typically 3 to 4 hours - in the case of a last-minute booking, only snacks and drinks will be provided onboard. Otherwise, empty leg flights do not differ from the usual jet experience.

An empty leg is very similar to a normal charter flight: however, it is important to notice a few subtle differences:

  • Empty flights flights are sold subject to a primary charter flight being carried out. If the primary charter is cancelled, then the empty leg is also subsequently cancelled.
  • Empty legs are only available on short notice when the schedule of a charter aircraft has been clearly defined. We do not recommend booking an empty leg more than 5 days in advance.
  • Empty legs are predefined in their routing and timings. These can be adjusted: however, the more your requirements differ from the original empty leg, the more expensive the flight will become (see the next question).

Empty leg flights can often be tailored to a slightly different route than that which was originally planned.

For example, if your requested departure airport is somewhere along the route of the original empty leg, then the aircraft could make an intermediate landing to pick you up. The price will be higher, due to the additional landing fees: however, it will still be less than a conventional charter.

The best chances of finding a cheap empty leg deal are centered around the main private jet hotspots. These are the major cities that see a large number of private jet charter flights.

For example, empty legs between the west coast and east coast of the USA occur on a very regular basis: they are much easier to find than less frequent routings.

Some private flight hotspots include:

Africa:
  • Cairo
  • Cape Town
  • Johannesburg
  • Libreville
  • Luanda
  • Marrakech

Asia:
  • Hong Kong
  • Kuala Lumpur

The most cost-effective private jet on the private charter market is currently the Eclipse 500. This jet aircraft, highly comparable in cabin-size to a modern SUV, can be flown in for as little as € 1,500 per hour.

When applying empty leg discounts, private flights in this aircraft can be performed below the cost of a commercial business class ticket.

To get the best possible price we recommend booking an empty leg flight approximately 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. The aircraft operator will be able to provide a good deal, given that the aircraft will otherwise perform the flight without passengers on board.

We recommend that you monitor this page closely to find some great last-minute deals. Our database is regularly updated, fed directly by availability from trusted aircraft operators. However, bear in mind that these flights can be somewhat flexible, and their availability can change quickly.

If you find a flight above which matches your travel itinerary, simply request a quote by filling out the form. One of our charter representatives will contact you to discuss your travel requirements, and will provide you with a price.

If your requested empty leg is no longer available, our team will be happy to discuss other cost-effective charter flight options.

If none of the above empty leg flights matches your requirements, you may want to consider requesting a quote for a regular private jet charter flight.
